Irit symptoms, treatment.jpgIrit – this inflammatory processes that occur in the iris of the eye (simultaneously are possible in the iris and ciliary body – in this case the process is called iridocyclitis).

In the case of the onset of this eye disease, the iris becomes a greenish or reddish shade, may to appear a slightly edema, picture loses sharpness, pupil reaction to light becomes slow, while the pupil remains constricted.

The causes of the disease and the mechanisms of its development

The following factors can cause the disease:

  • Rheumatism;
  • Syphilis;
  • Toxoplasmosis;
  • Tuberculosis;
  • Flu;
  • Diabetes;
  • Leptospirosis;
  • Gonococcal infection;
  • Brucellosis;
  • Focal infection;
  • Metabolic diseases;
  • Operations on the eyeball, eye wounds;
  • Purulent processes in the cornea.

Pathogen / its toxins affect the anterior part of uveal tract; ciliary body and iris react in the process of sensitization, the effects of autoimmune or immune antigen. The disease usually occurs in the form of iridocyclitis.

Symptoms of iritis

  • Pain that increases when touched to the eye;
  • Puffiness of the iris, rusty or greenish color, pattern becomes blurred;
  • Pupil narrows, slow response to light;
  • The surface of the iris and the posterior surface of the cornea covered with exudate deposits (precipitates);
  • Adhesions between the anterior lens capsule and pupillary margin of the iris;
  • Less often – hemorrhage from the surface of the iris.

Iridocyclitis can occur in two forms: acute forms – from three to six weeks, chronic can last for several months with the presence of propensity to relapse. Visual acuity is reduced if there is a change in the refractive media.

Diagnostics and Treatment

In order to diagnose a disease of the eyes as iritis, there is a need not only to conduct full ophthalmic examination of the patient, but may also be used, and other advanced technology, which include tonography which excludes the possibility of starting of glaucoma; CT laser eye.

Depending on how early was diagnosed and depend the success of the treatment. It should be remembered that strictly prohibited try a self-treatment, as in the case of unskilled activities, there is a risk of significant deterioration of the disease, which can cause not only a sharp decrease level of the visual acuity, but also lead to complete loss of vision without the possibility of its restoration.

In the first place, in the base of treatment of iritis, is the removal of the original disease, which triggered the start of its formation.

When iritis can be assigned the local treatment – special drops for eyes that contribute to the expansion of the pupil. This prevents the beginning of the formation of adhesions between the lens capsule and the iris.

Also, therapeutic agents will be administered in the form of ointments, electrophoresis,  applique. In the case of an acute course of the disease, patient is assigned instillation of hydrocortisone and medicinal ointments, which contain corticosteroids, local injections.
